How to Make Chrome & Edge Work With Stand Alone Players

In the last few months, both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have changed the default settings on their browsers which has caused stand alone player links to stop working.

In both cases, there is a minor settings change that will permanently fix the problem (you only have to do this once for each streaming station until the next time your browser updates itself):

Chrome:

1.  Go To RewoundRadio.com

2.  At the top of the browser is the image of a padlock in front of "rewoundradio.com".  Right mouse click on that image.

3.  On the menu that pops up, scroll down to "Insecure content".  To the right you will see "Block (default)".  Left click on the down arrow.

4.  Change the setting to "Allow".

5.  Close the Window.

6.  Reload the RewoundRadio.com home page.

7.  Download and play the link.

NOTE: This change has no impact on any other web site you visit but you may find you need to follow this same procedure for other streaming radio stations.

Edge:

1.  Go To RewoundRadio.com

2.  Click on the three horizontal dots on the far right at the top of the browser or hit "Alt+F" on your keyboard.  A drop down menu will pop up.

3.  Left click on "Settings".

4.  On the left menu left click on "Cookies and site permissions".

5.  On the right menu, scroll down to "Insecure content" and click on the right arrow.

6.  Next to "Allow" click on "Add".

7.  Type in "rewoundradio.com" and click "Add".

8.  Close the tab.

9.  Download and play the link.

NOTE: This change has no impact on any other web site you visit but you may find you need to follow this same procedure for other streaming radio stations.

Why?

Rewound Radio is a secure web site (that's why you see the padlock in front of its address at the top of your browser).  The links to stand alone players don't fit the strict definition of "secure" since they don't start with the prefix "https".  Previously both of these browsers (along with most others) allowed you to play these links.

Recently the default changed from "allow" to "block".  These procedures simply set it back to the former default of "allow".

You were probably not aware these defaults had changed since both browsers automatically update.
